This has been a long week already, and though it is nearly noon as I write this, I am still wearing PJs and robe and … oddly enough, river flops, while sitting at my desk with a cooling cuppa chai latte. The exhausted dogs are asleep, Tommy on the couch, tucked into the crack of the arm and seat, and Tuffy under my feet, his back pressed against the AC vent from summer habit. Though it’s cooler outside than inside at the moment. Iced tea is about 2/3rds made. The day’s second batch of clothes are being washed. Tuffy’s special dog food is being thawed (well, the meat portion, anyway.) He’s on white meat chicken breasts, carrots, apples, green beans, blueberries, and Greek yogurt. He eats way better than I do.

I am tired. I admit it. Tired to the bone. The hubs and I went away over the weekend for what was supposed to be a last-minute, 2 day trip for our 30th wedding anniversary to my favorite river. Parts of it were blissful. Parts were very different from usual. Parts were stressful. Parts of it were serendipitous. The blissful part was and always is, the river. Different, because, for some reason, the entire paddling world showed up there! At one point I counted 49 yaks in one stretch of the winding river. I have NEVER seen so many! Stressful because, while we were off, we had another family member pass away. There have been a lot of them this year. We ended up staying two more days in the mountains (without enough food, tea bags, or clean underwear) and stopping on the way back to buy clothes at a local Kohl’s for the visitation and funeral. It was bittersweet, as they alway are, but amazing too, because I have the best mom, best step-father, best sibs and best Sister’s-in-Law evah. And the most beautiful and polite and gracious nieces and nephs. Just braggin’.

Serendipitous because, ALMOST A SPOILER!!!!!

Well, you know how Jane (if you haven’t read book 9, DARK HEIR, stop here)…

Was hit by lightning at the end of DARK HEIR… And her gear melted into her body? Well I found a guy, a real life guy, who makes custom holsters. I got so see, hold, touch, and understand how they are made. Needless to say ALMOST A SPOILER!!! In book ten, SHADOW RITES, Jane will have new holster gear, custom formed of black Kydex, handmade by Steven Houser of GRHolsters.com. Oh yeah, baby! Check it out!

We got home near midnight and I have had a busy day already. But when you work in your PJs it’s hard to say I am overworked…
