Want Rogue Mage Fiction?

For the people who want Rogue Mage, Thorn St.Croix fiction, well, there are something like eleven shorts and vignettes in the first RPG book  alone! Here’s a link to a partial of the first one! Kickstarter pledgers get a larger chunk soon!

Want fiction in the Rogue Mage universe? Want to know if she ever goes to Enclave? Want to know what happens in Enclave when seraphs make a flyby? Want to know something about the history of world Thorn lives in? It’s written.

You all must know by now  that the kickstarter project is up and running at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1473997268/rogue-mage-roleplaying-game-and-world-book

What you may not know is that is a TON of fiction in the  kickstarter project and there are TWO kickstarter books in the project! At last  count, there are eleven pieces of fiction in the first one alone.

I love, love, love  Thorn and her world. When I got a chance to write more Thorn fiction for the  kickstarter project I was in heaven! Her world is different from ours, so alien  and wonderful and dreadful, and yet so full of the same petty differences and  violence as our own.

Some of my fans haven’t read the Rogue Mage books, perhaps because  they are so different from Jane Yellowrock, and I fully understand that. But  for me, as a writer, it is the very differences of that unique Rogue Mage  universe that make the world so intriguing. In Thorn’s world, I was able to  take existing apocalyptic tropes and turn them on their heads. In the Rogue  Mage universe, the end has come according to prophecy and the scripture of  multiple religions and cultures, with winged messengers and beings of judgment  who brought plagues and horror and war,  followed by leathery, winged creatures of Darkness who were bent on  enslaving and eating the remaining humans. However, unlike most apocalyptic   scenarios, no God has appeared. In fact after the destruction, plagues, wars  and horror, the Beings of the Light are looking more and like the beings of  Darkness who followed.

In Thorn’s world, destruction and the scars and remnants of  a lost civilization exist alongside the new world, which is built atop the old.  But the new civilization is barren, destitute, and most of its inhabitants are  isolated in physically fortified or magically warded cities. Only a few live in  small towns in out-of-the-way places, depending on the shape of the ice-age   landscape to protect them from the devil-spawn who roam, looking for their next  meal, and from the greater Darkness who hide in hellholes beneath the ground.

The remaining humans exist alongside the new creatures, born  out the apocalyptic destruction—the neomages, creatures who look almost human,  but who are an evolutionary leap that left humans behind. . .  Because neomages can use leftover creation  energy to do what looks like magic. Humans fear and hate and yet depend on the  mages whose magic can bring ease of life that mimics the technological world  the humans have lost. Yet, the humans themselves are bringing tech back, and  when it comes to war, the humans are fighters unparalleled.

As a character, Thorn is very different too. Unlike Jane  Yellowrock, who is a fighter from the very page of the first novel, Thorn  starts out inexperienced and untrained, and we are led into her world slowly,  and into her developing character slowly. Thorn starts out soft and afraid and  unwilling to put herself in danger, yet, because of her love of her step-child,   she finally walks into the Dark to fight.

If you have never participated in a Kickstarter project  before, here is the short and skinny on how it works. You go to the Rogue Mage  Kickstarter page and take a look at the pledge “tiers”. At every  pledge level, you will get something back in return. For instance, if you are  only interested in getting a .pdf copy of the books (and all of the short  stories J )   then you would choose the $20 level. If you want actual soft cover copies, that  would be the $55 pledge level and so on. Currently, the pledge levels range from just $5 up to $1000, depending on how much support you’d like to lend to
this project. Take a look and see what goodies we have up so far… http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1473997268/rogue-mage-roleplaying-game-and-world-book

It is such a rare  opportunity for a reader to be directly involved in the birth of a fictional world  like this. I really hope that you will jump in and grab your  chance to help bring Thorn’s world to life. And a very special thank you to all  of the readers that have supported this project so far. I could not have done it without you.
