Jane Yellowrock and Ricky-Bo LaFleur

At the end of Mercy Blade, the character isn’t in danger, all the threads have been tied up.  But… Yeah, But. There’s Jane Yellowrock and Ricky-Bo LaFleur, in the street, smelling of cat…

So I was thinking of writing a short story.

Blood Taint and Old Spells

I don’t remember much about that first full moon except the pain, the burning, scalding, skin-crawling pain when my pelt wanted to thrust through my skin, when my bones, begged—demanded—to shift. When my eyes went yellow-gold, and the night came alive in rich blues and greens and the detail of the world was so intense it was like nothing I had ever seen before. When the scents were acute, almost brutal in their concentration. It was like being tossed off a high bridge, to land at the bottom of rock-strewn crevasse, and find yourself broken, bloodied, but miraculously alive. Only to have a Mac truck target you down and crush out life might have been left.

I just knew that I had to get to Jane. That she would know how to help me. Help me to shift or help me to resist it or maybe put a bullet through my brain if nothing better presented itself.

Shall I write the short story? It’s open for comments!

Sounds very promising. I do hope that you’ll consider publishing in an upcoming anthology with Charlaine Harris, Patricia Briggs, or Laurell K. Hamilton. Since I work in a city library, I have managed to read a lot of new authors. Came across your book while searching Paranormal titles on Amazon. Checked out Skinwalker & Blood Cross from library, loved them so much that I purchased Mercy Blade from Borders. Please consider finishing the story so that we can have some interim closure with the Ricky-Bo storyline, until book 5. Thanks!

  2. Yes, a hundred times Yes! I also want to know what happens from the point where she smells cat, from his perspective. Can we find out out how much of his getting in on with the weres while undercover was okay with Rick?

Yes, please do write a short story from Rick’s POV. I always love hearing another character’s voice and this would be the perfect opportunity. Poor Ricky…this is going to be tough and I hope this experience brings him and Jane together in a way in which she will find peace with their relationship. Thank you for the wonderful books and story lines!

I think a short story would be perfect by itself and/or as the beginning of the 4th book.

I’d thoroughly enjoy the story from Ricky Bo’s perspective….I’m still wondering how, exactly, he got turned into “big cat”…..understanding that process would make it much easier to wait for the next book. I’ve been going back in “Mercy Blade” trying to pinpoint when this possibility occurred & haven’t succeeded in finding it yet.

I’ll admit I’m totally addicted to this series and would be happy with a short story to bridge the gap in time between books!!

Yes, please write more :) Though I have to tell you, me & the gals over on Ilona Andrews forum were tearing ricky-ho to shreds after we all finished Mercy Blade. We agreed that a new Supe in Jane’s life would be nice… Somebody who isn’t ricky-ho :D

  8. Yes, please. I have just finished Mercy Blade, and the ending begs for you to continue with what happens between these two very strong characters.

  9. So far I am agreeing with the unanimous “Yes, please write more”! Whether its a short story, or the beginning of the fourth Jane Yellowrock book, either way, we need more. NEED it! :) (Isn’t it nice to feel needed)

    PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE!

  11. Ooh, ooh, raises both hands in da air! Yes please!! I’d love to hear Rick’s POV on his “lifestyle change”. :D

Please don`t! I thought the end of book 3 was such a great cliffhanger for an enthralling new book! But please put it in the new book!

Yes, I would love to read Rick’s story. It could be the opening for the next book? Rick’s reaction to his change would really add to the saga – as well as when Jane explains her own Beast.

I, too, would pay for this short story. I so enjoyed Mercy Blade, just as much as the others. Thank you!! Give Big Cat a hug(well, maybe you better not)

  16. I will pay money for a short story. Looking with puppy dog eyes and wagging my tail.

  17. Ahhh YES….I loved Mercy Blade and YES please write the short story…just not too short please ;)

  18. super uber pretty please do! :)

  19. Your two paragraph teaser / whatever looks great to me, and I was very pleased with the earlier Cat Tats short.

  20. YES, the ending felt like wanting more, to continue with Rick’s version would be great.

  21. YES please. Love short stories!

  22. Definitely! I think you could even turn it into a spin-off, as you suggested on Magical Words. I love Rick’s character, and the last short you did with Cat Tats. More from his perspective would be welcome, IMO.

  23. tracydooley

    YES!

  24. Please do write it.

  25. Just finished listening to mercy blade. Loved it. I have travel an awful lot on business so audio bookes are a savior. I must say Khristine Hvam is a wonderful narrator. She does your characters justice.
Please do a short story so I know how it ends. Have loved following their story through a 3 books.
I am going to try some of your other series now.

    A thankful UK fan

Yes, please! I had to re-read Mercy Blade immediately and to hear more where it left off so soon would be excellent. :)

  27. Please write the short story. It would be wonderful to learn more about Rick. “Cat Tats” gave wonderful insight into the man that has won Jane’s heart. To know how he dealt with his first change would make a exciting short story; allowing readers another peak into his thoughts, his future, and his relationship with Jane.

  28. OHHH Yes please do a short story … Keep up the awesome work.. :)

  29. Oh YES! please write it. I would love to know what happens right after he parks his bike and Jane smells cat.
