Take a Good Long Look

My mama used to tell me (when I was bad) to take a good long look at myself. Now I use that advice to inspect my characters. And sometimes when I do that, strange lines pop into my head.
Here’s one that just hit about Jane, and then seemed to segue into Thorn. I never thought about them being similar, but maybe there’s more there than I thought. Take a good long look, eh? Hmm. Maybe mama’s more right than she knows.
Segue
Warrior’s fury,
killer’s fierce glee.
Back trails littered with misery,
And death in the shadowed track.
Anger pads beside me
Leashed close and growling
Retractile claws withdrawn
Killing teeth exposed.
Spirits twisted like jungle vines
Dark and willful. Strangling.
Sweetly scented, blood red blooms
Cloaking vicious thorns

Shhhh. DOn’t tell! (grins)
Thanks, Mud. My Gwen works were written for a specific audience and demographic, one that is much more narrow than the fans I hve today. The urban fantasy work is darker and more violent than Gwen’s work. And yes, again I sound schizoid.
Thanks Dawn! You made my day! Thorn is so much fun to write, and I look forward to returning to her universe some day soon!
I have just discovered your brilliant Rogue Mage Series and wanted to say cheers! I love it and simply can’t get enough.
I look forward to reading many more of your books.

Gorgeous.
I love to read authors older books to get an insight into their more current characters. Sometimes, if an author is very good, you can see the character morph, grow up, and become stronger.
I saw it in Kim Harrison’s work as Dawn Cook, even names reappear, morphed. Janet Evanich played with characters, strengthening them until they became her Plum series. And her earlier books weren’t strong at all. But the elements are there. Nora Roberts foreshadowed her Robb series. And my hero and he who taught me how to play chess when I was just a redheaded tot and he was bored at a party…Heinlein. Who I didn’t really ‘know’ until I grew old enough to read his ‘young adult’ (not something that really had a name then, I believe) and then his adult.
Grok?
I am weird. But it fascinates me to see the development in the minds of authors.
The reason I started reading your books was because my brother, who is also my best friend recommended you..The thing is, he is dislexic and also has turrets, and getting him through a page let alone a book is a miricale in itself..
Our mama used to say the same thing to me, take a good long hard look…Funny, mama’s get smarter as we get older..
As far as Thorn & Jane being similar? Oh boy, they are as different as night and day, but the are very much alike, fierce, loyal to those they love oh the list can continue but you get the point..
Alas my dear author friend I have a sneaking suspicion they’re alot like you too in their own rights…
