A Bit of Trivia and Zombies

Mudepoz asked how the foreign sales work, which is a great topic, and one I needed. A coworker fell and I am pulling the graveyard shift at the lab this week — which makes the brain all fuzzy and mushy. I am pretty sure that is where the myths about zombies come from, people who work nights. Plus — I have a head cold. Ick. A zombie with a cold, staggering around sneezing as body parts drop off. (laughing) I love that image! All that said, I feel pretty good.

Foreign sales can be both complicated and very simple. My AKA, Gwen Hunter, was signed with a company that had publishing houses in most foreign countries, and they demanded–and got–world rights to publish. Meaning that when I / she was with them, the books were automatically translated, and each one appeared in up to 25 countries. She was a bestseller in Estonia. Really. That was that easy way to sell overseas.

Faith is with a house where that isn’t going to happen. The publishing house has only North American rights, meaning that they can market and sell only to US and Canada. My agent has ties with agents in other countries, and is working with those foreign rights agents to sell the book in Europe. So far Jane Yellowrock is sold to Russia, France, Germany and is up for auction in Spain. Which is totally cool!

Meanwhile, back at the desk, I am still a zombie with a head cold. It must be a really bad one because the awful herbal tea I am drinking tastes good. Which is way scary…
