Snippet from Mercy Blade…

My pal Kim Harrison’s launch party for Black Magic Sanction was last night at Joseph Beth in Charlotte. So I finished up fast at my own (earlier) book event and the hubby drove me *fast* to Charlotte. We got there just in time to see her, break in line (really, I didn’t plan to. It was Guy’s idea…) get a book signed and get home to feed the pups. Lemma tell ya — Kim looked stunning! She is poised and funny and charming… Whooowhoo! And her book is *flying* off the shelves!

Okay — snippet time…

There was something important in the words, but before I could make sense of it, Bruiser picked me up, his body heated and dry against my cooling sweat. My chuckles stopped as if cut off with a knife. The touch of his skin sent my mind skittering and skipping, like a rock spun out over still water. He carried me through my bedroom to my bath and set me on the shower seat. He tossed a huge bath towel over the door, up high, out of the way of the spray, and turned on the water, holding his hand under the flow while I watched, silent, breathless. From my run. Not from the sight of him. No way.

Bruiser turned the hot water on me and steam burst up from the stall floor and walls, beating me. Drenching me. Heating me from the outside in. Pressing my clothes against my body. Stinging in the deeper cuts and making them bleed afresh, especially the one on my knee. The fang wound. And the one on my side. Claw marks, not deep but long and tearing and bleeding profusely. My left side, above my collarbone. He’d been aiming to rip out my throat. I shivered in delayed response. The Master of the City had tried to kill me. Again. I had thought—honestly thought—that he had decided to let me live.

A rockfall of fear slammed through me, gaining mass. Thunderous terror. I had to break my contract with the vamps. I had to get away if I wanted to stay alive. If I wanted to keep any part of me, for me, pristine and pure and free of vamp taint. And I had to get away from Bruiser.

That’s it!
Hugs!
Faith

About The Author

Faith
A native of Louisiana, Faith spent her early years on the bayou and rivers, learning survival skills and the womanly arts. She liked horses, dogs, fishing and crabbing much better than girly skills. Still does. A love of history and ancient writings excite her even more, perhaps because she can trace her own family tree back to William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066, later to Sehoy III, an American Indian princess, and to the gens de couleur libre, the free men of color in New Orleans at the time of the War Between the States. As a girl, she fell in love with fantasy and sifi, reading five books a week, and wishing she, "could write that great stuff." Teachers in high school convinced her she could, and she's been writing ever since, with a desire to see ultimate good fight and defeat ultimate evil, and humans as part of the battle. Faith now shares her life with her Renaissance Man (Ren) and their dogs.

I’m fairly sure this is cruel and unusual punishment, much against the Geneva convention.
