Battle and Mating

Last night, there was this horrible noise out back, behind the house, up and down the creek, in the woods. It was so loud the neighbors were all out with flashlights, concerned. It sounded like a battle between a coyote and raccoon. To the death! Or maybe cats mating. And it went on all night long!
Two years ago, we had a feral tom-cat who claimed our front porch for his bedroom and he brought all his ladyloves to the porch for trysts. We’d wake up in the middle of the night to this awful hissing and yowling, go downstairs and turn on the front porch light. The tom would look over his shoulder and hiss at us. For real! As if angry that we would have the gall to interrupt his amorous interlude. (And he sprayed the porch with his musk. AWFUL smell! Errrk.) We called animal control and they put out cages, but he was too smart to get caught.
The neighborhood got a family of coyotes and a family of foxes after that and the cats disappeared — dinner to something higher on the food chain, I guess. But the coyotes and foxes have moved on (or been removed or killed) and I do believe that the cats moved back in.
I am staying in today and working on jewelry and editing a friend’s book. Then the weekend. I’ll be at the lab this weekend, so this is the last post until next week.
Hugs!
Faith
