Sisters in Crime

Yesterday I went to the Open Book in Greenville, SC to speak to the Upstate Sisters in Crime group. I don’t usually do events like this these days, but Sisters in Crime was good to my AKA way back when… And quite a few members are old friends, like Susan Boyer and Ellis Vidler and Steve  Brown and Linda Lovely. This group is energetic and it’s always a lot of fun.  Aaaaand!

I got to meet Aleta Turner *in person*!!! Aleta has been an online fan and friend for years, but we never met until last night. I made a girly *squeeeeee* when I saw her! It was like meeting an old friend again after a long time away! We hugged and chatted across the room and in the parking lot afterwards. Knowing she might be coming and that she would drive 2 hours to get there, I had brought a treat for her — a necklace I made, a nice long strand of huge green moss agate nuggets, with copper, green aventurine, and bone spacers. It is heavy as heck, and *very* bold, and it was my very fav necklace for *years*. I hated to see it go, but it looked great on her! If I had known that she would bring a friend, I’d have brought something for Janet Nusbaum (hope that is spelled right!) too, but now I’ll make a pair of sterling earrings and zip them into the mail ASAP.

Several people in the group were writers, there was a bookseller, and most were readers. They asked great questions about what had happened in the market over the last few years, what trends were showing up in sales numbers, and what had happened to their favorite authors. I drew names and gave away 3 bracelets, a pair of earrings, and an anklet. We talked about my AKA’s books and about jewelry making, paddling,  Thorn St. Croix, Jane Yellowrock, Skinwalker, and (a little about)  Blood Cross.

It was a blast! Hugs, Y’all!

About The Author

Faith
A native of Louisiana, Faith spent her early years on the bayou and rivers, learning survival skills and the womanly arts. She liked horses, dogs, fishing and crabbing much better than girly skills. Still does. A love of history and ancient writings excite her even more, perhaps because she can trace her own family tree back to William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066, later to Sehoy III, an American Indian princess, and to the gens de couleur libre, the free men of color in New Orleans at the time of the War Between the States. As a girl, she fell in love with fantasy and sifi, reading five books a week, and wishing she, "could write that great stuff." Teachers in high school convinced her she could, and she's been writing ever since, with a desire to see ultimate good fight and defeat ultimate evil, and humans as part of the battle. Faith now shares her life with her Renaissance Man (Ren) and their dogs.

I am glad you liked Skinwalker. You made my day! Blood Cross will be out in Jan. 2010. And I’ll be out on the water again this week, if the broken toes let me. I don’t do big-water rivers. Class IIs and a rare Class III are enough for me! I miss it! And yes — I had to get over fear too. Panick attacks. Night terrors. But I beat them! And I love kayaking now.

Hi I am new to your writing and have just read Skin walker which i absolutely loved and wanted to know what is the date for the second book coming out? thanks. Sorry to read about your recent kayaking accident – White water kayaking I think is the one sport that scares the living daylights out of me. Tried it a few times after having learned to roll a kayak in a swimming pool and done a number of sea kayaking trips but as soon as i got into a river i went straight over, swallowed half the river and thought i was going to die – did the rest of the trip in the raft – not my proudest moment. At some point i am going to have to try again ..Dont like being scared of things.
