This Week and the Toe

This week has been interesting — for both good and bad reasons.  First, I finished the page proofs of Blood Cross. And I have to say — I LOVE the book! Lovelovelove it! Only one thing is missing, Jane going dancing. Poo! But other than that it is rife with action and potential romantic involvements… Nope, I’m not telling.

Anyway, hubby is taking the page proof changes to the post office to overnight them to my editor in NYC and my sense of relief is *huge*!  For me, putting a book together is more like building a house than, say, a stream of consciousness creativity. I plan out the foundation — plot lines, conflict, new characters — pull in old unfinished plot lines, and then start playing with them to see what will work. I am in the foundation part of the process right now, and it is sooo much fun!

Bad news? My broken toes. It has been 14 days and the foot is still swollen and painful. I still can’t get into a shoe, even my running shoes, fully unlaced. Yes, I know it takes a broken bone 3 weeks to heal, and I am being patient — well, trying to be a patient with patience!

This afternoon, we’ll leave for Greenville SC for a chat at the Open Book, starting at 6. Bring a brown bag lunch/dinner. Drinks are a buck.

Hugs, Y’all!
Faith

About The Author

Faith
A native of Louisiana, Faith spent her early years on the bayou and rivers, learning survival skills and the womanly arts. She liked horses, dogs, fishing and crabbing much better than girly skills. Still does. A love of history and ancient writings excite her even more, perhaps because she can trace her own family tree back to William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066, later to Sehoy III, an American Indian princess, and to the gens de couleur libre, the free men of color in New Orleans at the time of the War Between the States. As a girl, she fell in love with fantasy and sifi, reading five books a week, and wishing she, "could write that great stuff." Teachers in high school convinced her she could, and she's been writing ever since, with a desire to see ultimate good fight and defeat ultimate evil, and humans as part of the battle. Faith now shares her life with her Renaissance Man (Ren) and their dogs.

Seen them — won’t buy them. I like FFs because they are relaxing, not a workout!

Have you seen those Fit-flops, Faith ? They supposedly tone your legs & butt. The thing is,I don’t know if I can justify spending $40+ on a pair of flops :) ) Besides which they are kind of funny looking.

  3. Faith says:

I have a pair of running shoes for walking. Hmmm. Maybe I need to buy a pair of walking shoes?

  4. kikucat says:

Those river flops sound great :) I usually try to find flops with at least an inch or more of sole , just for the “cush” factor. I don’t actually own any “normal” shoes , lol. I have my Work shoes & boots . Then I have about 7 pairs of flops & a couple pair of “civilian” boots . Hmmm, maybe I will buy a pair of tennies :)

  5. Faith says:

Actually, I love my flip flops. I have a couple pair that are river flops, and are neon bright, with specially made soles that feel like walking on gummybears. LOVE them! But I am not averse at all to boots, either! Yeah, cold bones are not the way I want to go right now.

  6. kikucat says:

Ah yes,the power of positive thinking…hehehe. I am glad you were able to get sandals on, Faith :) I was *kind of* teasing about the flops because I live along the NC coast & that’s all you see folks wear, even when it is definitely shoe-weather. It would help to keep your feet warm when not in public *slippers or socks* to encourage healing. Cold bones don’t heal as fast as warm one’s do.

  7. Faith says:

I managed sandals, and for the first time, today, I have less pain. Andf…7 to 8 weeks???? No way!
I *will* be well in 3 weeks! Right? Say I’ll be well!?! LOL

  8. kikucat says:

Who told you that broken bones take 3 weeks to heal, lol. Any time I have broken toes or feet it has taken 6-8 weeks to heal. One broken toe wouldn’t be too bad but multiples are going to be a stone cold b*tch :( I thought you only broke 1 toe? It is flops for you, Faith :D Look on the bright side. It shouldn’t be horribly cold where you are so at least your feet aren’t going to freeze wearing flops ;) Trying to look professional while at book signings *while wearing flops* isn’t going to work as well but hey,you have a very good reason to be wearing them.

Sorry about your toes—I didn’t know that. Get better and stay off of them if you can. Yikes. Have a great time in Greenville. Wish I could’ve been there! :-D
