Poetry by Shawn Blackhawk

My Friend Shawn Blackhawk  has a new book of poetry out. It is edgy, sharp and cutting. Not for the faint of heart — but who wants namby pamby poetry anyway? Poetry should cut and pierce and slice to the heart of all pain.

With her permission, here is one  poem (and likely the least intense of my favorites from this new book).
From Midnight Musings

        My Angel

To be kissed by an angel is to taste the sweetness and joy of life itself
Behold!
Wings of absolute perfection beneath these paltry hands
Oh dearest Angel,
Free me from my mortal coil
Let my spirit soar in absolute bliss next to the very clouds
Upon which you rest your head.
Oh sacred Angel,
Forge my strength
From the sun dipped, fiery edges of Heaven
Where you exalt the very beginnings of Creation itself.
Oh my Angel
Bring me peace
Lay down my sword
End this battle I wage within my very soul
Tearing the fabric of my existence, of all existence
Sweet, sweet Angel
Carry me in your arms
Teach me to love that which I do not know
Grasping at the concept of unity for all mankind
Wanting
Needing
Hoping
My Angel
I await Thee
With the very patience of time itself.

About The Author

Faith
A native of Louisiana, Faith spent her early years on the bayou and rivers, learning survival skills and the womanly arts. She liked horses, dogs, fishing and crabbing much better than girly skills. Still does. A love of history and ancient writings excite her even more, perhaps because she can trace her own family tree back to William the Conqueror's invasion of England in 1066, later to Sehoy III, an American Indian princess, and to the gens de couleur libre, the free men of color in New Orleans at the time of the War Between the States. As a girl, she fell in love with fantasy and sifi, reading five books a week, and wishing she, "could write that great stuff." Teachers in high school convinced her she could, and she's been writing ever since, with a desire to see ultimate good fight and defeat ultimate evil, and humans as part of the battle. Faith now shares her life with her Renaissance Man (Ren) and their dogs.
