The Screaming Raptors

I’m here today!!!!

This is the last week that the raptors will scream. The feeding frenzy will fade as the chicks are taught to hunt. Then the fledglings will take off for greener past…uh…bluer skies. But until then I love the sound they make, the screaming demands. Hmmm. Is that the terrible two’s of the raptor world?

A few years back, I watched for several weeks as a mated pair of hawks nested and hunted.  Then one morning I saw the male hawk, dead in the road, killed by by a passing vehicle. The next day I watched in amazement as the mama hawk tried to teach her three young how to hunt, all alone.

It was in a huge field, and I could see everything, so I pulled over and just stared. She would rise into the air and search for something, then dive and grab. Her three babies stood on the ground and watched. Then, one took off, emulating mama. It was wonderful.

Today is pretty great too.
Hungs,
Faith
